Men lie, women lie and Hip-Hop artists lie a lot.
Whether it be exaggerating the truth in rhymes or telling fibs to save face over embarrassing situations.
It happens time and time again. But with technological advances, a nosier media and a drama hungry public, a lie rarely stays a lie for too long. The truth eventually comes out, one way or another.
Here are some Hip Hop artists and the situations where they told a bold faced liemay have bent the truth.
Nicki Minaj Takes It On The Chin…
In July, intel surfaced that Harajuku Barbie may have gotten them knucks put on her by a man at a posh Dallas hotel and reported the incident to the police. TMZ later reported that Nicki told authorities that a poolside squabble escalated later in the entertainer's hotel room where the man reportedly hit her in the lower lip with a suitcase. Minaj later denied the account. Even tweeting, “The fact that u believe a man either slapped or punched me in the face & didn't leave on a stretcher w/his balls hangin off? #getaF%cknLife”
In August, Dallas police released the 911 call made by a hotel employee after the assault incident and the police report which claims the man forcefully grabbed a suitcase out of the rapper's hand and it struck her in the mouth. In the call, a woman referred to as “Nicki” can be heard in the background screaming, “Look at what he did to my face!” The report says she refused to press charges. After the truth surfaced Nicki's Twitter response this time was:“Can u pls get off my penis?” Oh, and the next day her t*tty magically popped out on Good Morning America to make us forget about the whole assault thing.
Birdman Swims With The Dolphins…
During an October 2010 interview with Shade 45's Angela Yee, Bryan “Birdman” Williams sort of umm implied that he would soon be a part owner in the NFL's Miami Dolphins. “It's in the works,” Stunna told Yee. "You have to get a clearance from the NFL…we're waiting on the clearance. Once we get cleared, we good. You got Venus [Williams] and all them other people involved. We wanted to be part owners in the Dolphins.”
A short time after the Cash Money CEO's claim, The Miami Herald printed a report that proved Birdman may have just been flying off at the mouth. Dolphins majority owner Stephen Ross was quoted in the article saying, "I have NEVER spoken to [Birdman] or any representative," Ross said in a statement, adding that the ownership group was "not considering or looking for any celebrity limited partners." Ouch! I mean, (bird call)
Rick Ross Cops A Plea…
In the summer of 2008, mediatakeout.com posted a picture of what appeared to be a young Rick Ross clad in a correctional officers uniform accepting some sort of a certificate of completion. Rozay denied that he ever worked for the fuzz and even said that the picture was the work of Photoshop pranksters. “If this shit was real, don't you think they would have more specifics, like dates and everything,” Ross questioned.
A week later thesmokinggun.com obtained documents that verified that the rapper was indeed a law officer employed as a prison guard in Florida from December 1995 until June 1997.
Soulja Boy's G5 Dreams…
Last month, TMZ reported that Soulja Boy told them personally that he was copping a $55 million jet for his 21st birthday. There were even specifics. The “Crank Dat” rapper was allegedly purchasing a $35 million bird then adding another $20 million in upgrades. Why? Because he can.
Turns out SB's jet life was false. “The elaborate rumors circulating about Soulja Boy purchasing a jet for his 21st birthday are grossly over exaggerated and are not true,” the rappers rep explained a few days later. To add a slap in the face to a punch in the gut, the same day news surfaced that DeAndre owed over $20,000 in back taxes.
Vanilla Ice's Past Gets Dipped…
In 1991, in an apparent attempt to get his name popping in the hood, Vanilla Ice's label allegedly instigated the publication of a fake biography on the rapper who was already exaggerating his past. The book included claims the Van Winkle had attended school with Luther Campbell and grew up in the hood.
After being put on front street and called out as a liar, Ice wrote his own book to set he record straight.
Plies' Rap Sheet…
When you've lain in as many bushes, busted as many choppers and proclaimed yourself to be a pure unadulterated goon like Florida rapper Plies has in his raps, you would expect to have a rap sheet longer than the line at Wal-Mart. He even raps in one song about “sitting in a cold cell.”
In July 2008, hiphopdx.com ran an exclusive story detailing Plies' criminal past that was full of…well nothing. The records obtained from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement show that the “goon affiliated, ex drug dealer” was arrested for the first time at the age of 29 for the misdemeanor charge of resisting an officer without violence, years after the start of his rap career. Plies was also arrested in a club shooting later that year. He received no known jail time after pleading no contest to the charge.
Akon's False Felonious Capers…
In 2008, “Locked Up” crooner Akon recounted a tale to Rolling Stone magazine about his criminal past saying he spent over 3 years in prison for heisting a BMW in 1998. "I was driving a BMW 325, on my way to the chop shop,"Akon told Rolling Stone. "That's the slowest car in the whole fleet, the BMW 325. I'd been in high-speed pursuit before and always got away, but this time I didn't because the car was too slow."
A short time later, thesmokinggun.com exposed that Akon had padded his jail time by about ooh…2 and ½ years! Police records show that Kon only spent five months in jail for lifting the Beamer.
